Pregnancy and the birth of a child, especially the first-born, mark a fundamental step in the never-interrupted process of forming one's identity and are the clear, tangible, unequivocal image of the conquest of a new piece of oneself.
Being about to have a child allows you to understand your mother better, to feel closer to her and, above all, to consider with greater indulgence those shortcomings that, as children, made us angry and frustrated. Accepting her limitations and flaws will help us accept ours too. Loving an imperfect mother instills the courage to accept one's own imperfections and alleviates the fear that mistakes could have lasting effects on their child. Of course the dynamic shifts, sometimes becoming more supportive, sometimes requiring new boundaries since disagreements may arise.
